Coach - Certification


Each year McKnight is looking for parents to take on the roles of Head Coach, Assistant and Goalie Coach. These are fundamentally the most important roles on the ice. If you are interested in joining us this coming season, you will be required to complete our online application form.  Please be sure to have your coach qualifications up to date before the season starts.  Not having all of your coach qualifications does not preclude you from a position, but it could adversely affect your application when in comparison to another available coach that has all qualifications completed.  Deadline for submitting your online applications is September 12, 2016.

ALL coaches in ALL divisions require coach certification.  McKnight Hockey Association will reimburse coaches for fees associated with certification courses.  McKnight Hockey minimum certifications requirements meet or exceed Hockey Calgary minimum certification requirements:

McKnight Coaching Requirements for the 2016-2017 season:

  • Respect In Sport-Coach program (mandatory)
  • Police Information Check (mandatory)
  • Hockey Canada online Safety program (mandatory)
  • Concussion Awareness Training Tool (online) - C.A.T.T (mandatory)
  • Coach Level 1 or 2 (mandatory) (Level 1 is for Timbits/Novice or Level 2 Atom-Junior C)
  • Development 1 (PeeWee 1 Head Coach only)
  • Coach Instructional Stream - Checking (Atom-Junior C Head Coaches only)

If you have coached before, please ensure that you check your qualifications via your eHockey account prior to completing your online application.

Concussion Awareness:

Cattonline.com provides up-to-date concussion education for parents and coaches.  It includes video lessons and resources to effectively prevent, recognize and manage a player's recovery.  Please click HERE to begin the online course.  When you have completed your training, please forward a copy of your confirmation to your team manager.  This information will be updated on your HCR profile of McKnight Tracking items.

Coach Level 1:

McKnight Hockey Association is offering a COACH LEVEL 1 CLINIC for all TIMBITS AND NOVICE COACHES.

This program consists of 3 parts:  online, classroom, and on-ice.  The online session must be completed before attending the classroom and on-ice session.  The online session registration is available through the Hockey Canada eHockey website.  Registration for the McKnight classroom and on-ice Coach Level 1 clinic is below.  When you complete the program, your eHockey account will be updated to show your certification.  You will not be required to pay for the McKnight portion of the clinic.  McKnight will be billed directly.

***NOTE*** If you have completed the Coach Level 2 program prior to 2014, then you are grandfathered and DO NOT need to take the separate Coach Level 1 clinic.

***NOTE*** If you have completed the online portion - HU - Coach Level 1/2, then you do not need to do it again, this is the same online portion for both Coach Level 1 and Coach Level 2 clinics.

To submit your receipts, please include a copy of your receipt, a copy of your certification, along with your name and address.  Please submit all of your receipts at once, rather than submitting them one at a time!
